Our Story

Seabreeze Escape & Retreats began long before there was ever a villa.

It began with a little girl growing up in Jamaica, playing beneath the only mango tree on her father’s property in Flagaman, in the greater Treasure Beach area of St. Elizabeth.

I was my father’s only child, and some of my fondest childhood memories were made right here on this land. During the summer, when mangoes were in season, I would sit beneath that tree waiting for the ripe mangoes to fall, eating them almost as quickly as they touched the ground.

Even as a little girl, I would dream about one day building my home here. I imagined myself sitting on my patio with a cup of tea, looking out toward the Caribbean Sea and watching the sun slowly disappear beyond the horizon.

My father lived on this property throughout his life, until 2021, and the land has always remained deeply connected to my memories of him and of home.

Life here was simple, natural and free.

Some of my happiest days were spent walking down to Back Seaside or making my way through the hills to Great Bay Beach, where my father’s best friend lived. I remember going to see the catch of the day, spending hours on the beach with my family, and going back and forth between Great Bay and Old Wharf in Treasure Beach.

There was no rush.

There was simply the sea, the land, family, community and the freedom of being outdoors.

I also remember watching my father welcome visitors from overseas. They would come to Jamaica and fall in love with this little corner of the island. Some would stay for months at a time, saying they didn’t want to go home.

As a little girl of about ten, I couldn’t understand it. I remember wondering, Why would someone not want to go back home?

As I grew older, I began to understand exactly what they meant.

They had discovered something here that was becoming harder to find elsewhere: simplicity.

There was no electricity and no running water. Meals could be cooked over a wood fire. Food came from the land. Life wasn’t centered around utilities, schedules or conveniences. It was a free and uncomplicated way of living, influenced by the natural surroundings and the Rastafarian culture and lifestyle that became part of the experience.

And there was always that cool Caribbean breeze.

People kept returning because of how this place made them feel.

After migrating from Jamaica, I carried those memories with me.

Over the years, I found myself wanting more and more to return to the place where those memories began. I told myself that one day I would build the vacation home I had dreamed about as a child—a place where I could come home, sit outside with my tea, watch the sunset over the Caribbean Sea and experience those feelings again.

But the dream became bigger than just building a home for myself.

I wanted to share it.

I wanted other people to have the opportunity to step away from the hustle and demands of everyday life and experience a little of the Jamaica I knew as a child—the slower pace, the warmth of the community, the sea breeze, the food, the outdoors and the freedom to simply enjoy the moment.

That dream became Seabreeze Escape & Retreats.

Today, we are creating Seabreeze with the comforts our guests expect while holding onto the spirit that made this land so special in the first place.

It is a place to gather with family and friends, enjoy authentic Jamaican food, explore Treasure Beach and Jamaica’s beautiful South Coast, experience wellness and retreats, or simply find a quiet spot and do nothing at all.

We want our guests to leave with more than photographs.

We want them to understand why those visitors I watched as a little girl kept coming back—and why some of them said they never wanted to leave.
